Written by M. Sean High

On September 14, 2015, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that agricultural material will be added to the career training and counseling programs being offered to those individuals transitioning out of the military.

According to the USDA press release, “[e]very year, approximately 200,000 Service members complete the Transition Assistance Program as they prepare for civilian life.”  With the announced program changes, service members that participate in the Transition Assistance Program will now receive information about the “wide variety of loans, grants, training and technical assistance” available to veterans that wish to pursue a career in agriculture.

The USDA press release further stated that the “announcement reflects USDA’s continued commitment to assisting veterans as they start or expand farming and ranching operations, in order to strengthen the American economy and provide livelihoods to our returning veterans.”
