The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural
Resources (DCNR) updated
Chapter 45 of the PA Code to delay the start of the ginseng harvest season
to September 1. Previously, the harvest
season began on August 1. The harvest
season continues to run through November 30.
DCNR will no longer certify any ginseng harvested prior to September 1.
According to the PA DCNR,
this change will allow the ginseng, a Pennsylvania Vulnerable Plant, to fully
mature prior to harvest, ensuring sustainability of ginseng production within
the state.
For more information, please see the PA DCNR website.
